  1. Tarn Hows

A perfect walk for the whole family; Tarn Hows is a great place to let the dogs out, pop the baby in the pram and enjoy a stroll around one of the most iconic and precious locations in the Lake District.

  1. Grizedale Forest

Grizedale is a great location for dog-lovers. Follow multiple trails, explore the forest, and let the kids run free- you can even hire bikes and let the pups chase after you!

  1. Stickle Tarn

A great choice for those wanting to gain elevation and stunning views without a full day’s hike. This up and down route includes rocky terrain, riverside footpaths and a rewarding tarn for a splash at the top. Ideal for dogs who love to swim or enjoy a good run.

  1. Orrest Head

A very popular and local favourite, just a stone’s throw from central Windermere, this is the perfect stroll for all abilities as well as four legged friends. Finish of with lunch in town. Perfect.

  1. Rydal Water

A walk not to be missed. Adapt as you like and add elevation where the trail tempts you or stay low level and enjoy the waterside views.  A great place for you and the dogs to enjoy a wild swim!

  1. Scout Scar

A short linear route with views across the south lakes and down into the Lyth Valley. Easily accessed from Kendal and a great quick hike for families and dog owners needed a fresh-air boost.

  1. Loughrigg Fell

Shadowing Rydal Water and a great first ‘Wainwright’ for anyone interested in bagging some iconic fells; Loughrigg offers mountain views at only 300m. With easy access from Ambleside, plan your route to finish with a chippy tea in town!

  1. Stock Ghyll

A short and exciting walk directly from Ambleside. Follow the River Rothay and enjoy this historical stroll. Make the most of the journey and stop at Force Café for a coffee and cake before making your way back to town.

  1. Whitbarrow Scar

Arguably one of the most underrated walks in South Lakeland, Whitbarrow is a stunning fell, jutting out from flat planes with views across the Lyth valley and the Lake District. Easily accessed from the A590, this is the perfect location to take the dogs, enjoy the breeze in your face and explore one of Cumbria’s lesser-known locations.

  1. Coniston Old Man

One of the Lake Districts most iconic mountains. If you are looking for a day hike with historical interest, multiple routes, and some of the best views you will ever witness; then this is the walk for you. If you have a fell-loving dog, then you can’t go wrong – just keep your eyes peeled for Herdwicks!
