This month, three of Cumbria’s finest restaurants were awarded their first Michelin stars. We’re proud to be part of a county and community that houses some of the countries’ most incredible chefs and eateries.
Heft at Newton
Home to local chef, Kevin Tickle, Heft at High Newton is renowned for its incredible food and deep-rooted community.
Kevin’s knowledge of the lakes, fells, and sea combined with a passion for foraging and sustainability makes for a unique dining experience, born of the Cumbria landscape.
Housed in a 17th century inn, Kevin and his partner Nicola also provide a bar service. Quality ales and hand selected wines accompany tasting plates and seasonal snacks to give all visitors a sample of what the restaurant offers.
With offerings ranging from Sunday service to a set dinner of 10 courses, choose your perfect dining experience. Dishes include Orkey scallops, local mutton, scorched monkfish, and venison tartare.
The Samling
With unrivalled views across lake Windemere, The Samling is iconic in its location. Head Chef, Robby Jenks, focuses on seasonal ingredients growing in the greenhouse, gardens, and woodlands surrounding the restaurant to provide a grounded, seasonal menu.
Bold and simple is the goal, inspired by the mountains and lakes surrounding the property.
Offering everything from afternoon tea to an immersive ‘chefs table’ experience, including a tour of the kitchen and service from the head Chef himself.
Pentonbridge Inn
In 2017, this former coach Inn at Pentonbridge reopened its doors, along with the nearby Netherby Hall. This simultaneous renovation provided head chef Chris Archer with the opportunity to cook using produce grown within the walled garden at the Hall. Now, the team forage ingredients that form the key components to their outstanding menu, keeping food mileage to less than 3 miles. These chefs embrace the Cumbria larder available on their doorstep.
With an 8-course tasting menu, providing seasonal British cuisine including Texel lamb, North Sea halibut and local cheeses, experience the true taste of the North.
