The Best Ice Cream in the Lake District

Here in the Lake District, we’re all about embracing summer. Whether your activity of choice is getting out on the water, by paddleboard, kayak or steamer. Or perhaps just sitting back and relaxing in the sunshine – you are on holiday after all! Whatever you’re preferred pursuit, we can all agree on one thing that makes every experience a little better -ICE CREAM!

First prize goes to The Little Ice Cream Shop in Hawkshead and Windermere. Winner of the Cumbria Life Magazine ‘Reader’s Choice Awards’ 2020. Treat yourself to one of 40 flavours including Pistachio Ripple, Rasberry Twist, Biscoff and Key Lime Pie.

Not a dairy fan?  This magical little shop also has up to 5 vegan alternatives including Pineapple sorbet and bounty ice cream. You can even treat your pup to a refreshing doggo ice cream, made without sugar and lactose. Lucky pooch!

Another fine contender is the magnificent Kimi’s Gelato, located in Staveley, just off the A590 enroute to Windermere. This family run business prides itself on creating authentic, high quality, delicious gelato. Churned on site daily, with the freshest ingredients these guys know how to make a tasty snack! Treat yourself to a little piece of Italy in the Lake District.

Finally, an almighty shout out to the iconic Lakes Ice Cream. Having been in the business for over 30 years, you can find this delicious ice cream in shops across the Lake District, from ice cream vans to cafes and bars, Lakes Ice Cream is synonymous with Cumbria and have won multiple awards throughout the years to prove it. Providing classics such as mint choc chip, rum and raisin and quite possible the best vanilla out there, a trip to Cumbria isn’t complete without indulge in multiple scoops of this delicious milky delicacy.
